Many of you may have become familiar with Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) this past year or so.  Although the technique has been around for years and utilized by us on the healthcare side, it has become very popular in the golf world due to the success of Bryson DeChambeau.  Bryson is a huge advocate for MAT because it has helped him not only stay healthy but also improve his power and performance.

MAT is an exercise method that tests for individual muscle weakness and when found, activates them through a simple technique to restore both their flexibility and strength.  It is unique because it works to “activate” weak muscles, rather than trying to make tight muscles relax. MAT does not force change on the body, but instead works with it to improve strength and flexibility so normal range of motion can be restored. The goal of MAT is to improve the contractile capability of muscles to enhance proper movement patterns, which then improves athletic performance and prevents injuries.

WHY MAT?

We believe that flexibility is a derivative of strength and that muscle tightness is secondary to muscle weakness. If you are looking for ways to improve your strength and stability, MAT is an excellent option that works on improving both of these aspects. It is also extremely beneficial for golfers as it works on improving the flexibility and stability that is necessary to have a strong swing.MAT works perfect on rotational sports like golf since it targets and improves specific muscles required for a powerful and consistent golf swing. This tool improves your golf swing by increasing overall body flexibility, mobility, stability and strength all in one session. The hip pivot or hip rotation is a fundamental movement in your golf swing.  MAT increases hip flexibility and strength producing better trunk and shoulder rotation resulting in faster clubhead speed in your golf swing. If the muscles are working effectively, they produce coordinated lower body stability, stronger core and faster clubhead speed resulting in longer ball distance. MAT restores the range of motion (ROM) and strength at these areas creating proper body movements during the backswing and transition making lag a natural by product.

WHO IS MAT FOR?

MAT is non-invasive and is designed to balance the muscular system for people of all ages. It is a great way to improve your overall health and get you back to doing what you love.  MAT is also a great precursor to exercise.  If we can get muscles firing on all cylinders before a workout then we will see greater gains from the workout.
